My choice for this post will be my best vacation, so here it goes!
As all of you know, I'm kind of a weird cactus grower/fan, so I'll tell you about my lastest trip, to the Atacama desert during this year's summer.
It all began when I left my house in Curacaví to join my friend, and driver in our adventure, at his house in Olmué, fifth Region. That day we prepared everything to start early the next morning, we had a long way coming. We started the day early, at 7, and then we went out heading north to El Cobre, Antofagasta (2nd) Region. The idea was to go there and start coming back south, stopping in locations to find, photograph and try to discover seeds of Chilean native cacti. For that purpose we had the knowledge of my friend, who's been travelling to the dessert for at least 5 years now, and the help of this book, which contains pictures and descriptions of several species :)

We were true adventurers, walking for hours to find plants, climbing hills and small mountains ranges. On a normal day, we would wake up at 9 approx. And then have breakfast to start the day exploring the camping site we had chosen the night before. After that we would find a new site, and track the land to find more species. It would all finish when the sun was coming down, as we needed to find a good camping spot, and use sunlight to set the tents.
It may sound boring for some, but this was one of the best experiences I've had, I learned and enjoyed every moment of it :) Here you have some pictures of the trip!

haha that sounds fun and crazy!
ResponderEliminarThat sound really interesting. Did you discovered many new seed for your collection?
ResponderEliminarI don't think it is boring! It sounds pretty interesting the fact of not knowing that you were going to find out there makes it more exciting
ResponderEliminarWow! I'm not a big fan of the north of our country because the weather it's so hot and it annoys me a little bit, but I really want to meet places like you had the luck to visit. By the way, I think that the camp experience it's the best for trips like this!
ResponderEliminarit really amaze me how much you like cacti and everything related to that but (asuming that you like cacti) it sounds like a really fun and worthwhile trip to learn and to strengthen your ties with your friends.
ResponderEliminarMy family is from Atacama!! From the 3rd region though. We go almost every summer in holidays, and I love the desert, I love the idea that you can never see the end of it. You can see all kind of browns in the mountains because of the minerals of the zone and that beauty with the cacti on it is unreal, maybe is my favorite kind of landscape at the moment, it brings me lots of memories just to think about it. I think that your adventure was awesome.
ResponderEliminarI think it's a beautiful story, and also pictures!
ResponderEliminarIt make think about a lot of things, first of all about the great and wonderful variety of beautiful landscapes and plants, it makes me so happy knowing I so close to see this, cause I live in Chile.
Then I thought about that, I've never done this kind of working-recrational trip, and I would love to do this with my geography studies.
Keep loving cacti and making this awesome job!
The chilean desert has a very alien feeling, maybe a little empty, but it's another example of how incredible nature is, so that looked like a great trip.
